the same, the said mayor and councilmen shall not build or
construct any public system of water works or water supply
for said town, as provided in section thirty-five aud the follow-
ing sections of chapter four hundred and twenty-five of the
Acts of the General Assembly of Maryland, passed at its
January session, 1892, it being the intention of this act to give
said mayor and councilmen the right to provide for a system of
water supply in either one of said two methods in said act and
this act provided, but not to give the right to exercise both
powers at the same time.

Effective.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That this act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.

Approved April 6th, 1894.

CHAPTER 570.

AN ACT to repeal Section two hundred and twenty-eight of
Article seven, of the Code of Public Local Laws of the
State of Maryland, relating to the City of Westminster, in
Carroll County, as amended by Section two hundred and
twenty-eight, Chapter two hundred and ninety-two, of the
Acts of eighteen hundred and ninety, and to re-enact the
same in an amended form.

Repeal.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That section two hundred and twenty-eight of
article seven, of the Code of Public Local Laws of the State
of Maryland, relating to the city of Westminster, in Carroll
county, as amended by section two hundred and twenty-eight,
chapter two hundred and ninety two, of the acts of eighteen-
hundred and ninety, be and the same is hereby repealed and
re-enacted so as to read as follows :

Power over
streets.

228. The Mayor and Common Council of Westminster
shall have the power to grade and pave streets, alleys and
lanes in the corporate limits of said city of Westminster,
and to regulate the width thereof; to lay flag stones
across said streets, alleys and lanes, whenever necessary; to
provide of what material the said streets, alleys and lanes,
gidewalks and gutters in said city shall be paved and curbed,
