LAWS OF MARYLAND.
R. Heck, O. D. Gilbert and their associates and successors in
office, be and they are hereby constituted and made a lx>dy cor-
porate and politic under the name and style of "The Maryland
State Firemen's Association," and by that name shall have per-
petual succession, and be capable in law to hold and dispose of
property, real and pcrsonal, to sue and be sued, complain and
defend, in any Court of law or equity; to have and use a
common seal and alter and renew the same at pleasure; to
make and adopt a constitution and by-laws for the government
of said body corporate and its affairs, provided the same shall
not conflict with the constitution and laws of this State or of
the United States; to elect officers and directors, and generally
to do every other act or thing to carry into effect the provisions
of this act, or to promote the objects and designs of the said
corporation.

Objects and
purposes
|
SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the objects and purposes
of this corporation shall be to form a more perfect organization
among the volunteer firemen of Maryland, to establish har-
mony of action, to provide pecuniary support in cases where
firemen have been injured while in the performance of their
duty, to insure prosperity and success, to promote the best
interests of the volunteer firemen of Maryland, to encourage
the cultivation of fraternal fellowship, to promote the forma-
tion of fire companies in towns and villages in the State that
arc now without adequate protection from fires, to compile
statistics of information concerning the practical working of
various systems, and the merits of various apparatus in use for
the extinguishing of fires.

Officers.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That the volunteer fire companies
and veteran volunteer firemen's associations of the State of
Maryland, composing the membership of this corporation, shall
annually, on tho second Thursday in June, elect a president, a
senior vice-president, one vice-president for each volunteer tire
company or veteran association, a recording secretary and a
treasurer; and that the president shall annually appoint five
. persons to act as the executive committee, who, together with
the other officers named, shall have the general management of
the affairs of the corporation.

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That the said corporation hereby
formed shall have full power to receive subscriptions, dona-
tions, devises and bequests of money, or real or personal
property, in trust or otherwise, and to purchase or otherwise
