To collect
taxes.
|
time the tax list is placed in his hands, and which said clerk
shall hold, together with all moneys received by him, subject to
the order of the council.
|
|
|
Further
duties.
|
SEC. 25. The bailiff shall attend the meetings of the council
and perform such duties as it shall direct; he shall prevent dis-
orderly meetings of persons, and he shall enforce all ordinances
that may be enacted by the council.
|
|
|
Fees of
bailiff.
|
SEC. 26. The bailiff shall have the same fees for making
distresses or levying execution for taxes as are allowed county
collectors, and for making any arrests, or serving process for
violation of any ordinance of the corporation, the same fees
as are allowed constables for similar services; and when the
bailiff wilfully tails to discharge any duty of his office, he may
in addition to the remedy on his bond, be fined by the mayor
in his discretion not exceeding ten dollars for any one offence,
for the payment of which said fines his bond shall be
responsible.

Powers of
mayor.
|
SEC. 27. The mayor of said town of Brunswick shall have
all power, jurisdiction and authority of justices of the peace,
in reference to the trial of all cases for violation of corporation
ordinances.

|
Recovery of
penalties.
|
SEC. 28. All fines and penalties and forfeitures imposed by
this sub-title of this article, or any ordinance of the council,
may be collected in the name of the mayor and council before
any justice of the peace in the same manner as small debts
are collected, and the delinquent shall stand committed to the
county jail until the same are paid with costs.

Jurisdiction
of officers.
|
SEC. 29. The commissioners of the county, justice of the
peace, sheriff, constables and all other county and State officers
shall have, hold and exercise their offices and jurisdiction in
said town.

|
Powers of
council.
|
SEC. 30. The council shall have the same powers as are now
exercised by the State board of health of this State, restricted
however to the limits of the town.
|
|
|
May regulate
privies.
|
SEC. 31. The council shall have full power to regulate priv-
ies and to regulate the character of boxes or other fixtures for
them, and the mode in which they shall be emptied and their
contents removed, and shall prohibit the institution or main-
tenance of privy sinks, cesspools or other depositories of filth
within the corporate limits.
