conviction thereof, before any justice of the peace of Dorches-
ter county, shall be fined not less than ten nor more than fifty
dollars, in the discretion of the justice trying the same, and be
committed to the county jail until such fine and costs are paid.

CHAPTER 507.
AN ACT to authorize the Board of Public Works, in its
discretion, to purchase for the State the Painting, "The
Planting of the Colony in Maryland under Leonard Cal-
vert," executed by Frank B. Mayer.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the board of public works is hereby author-
ized, in its discretion, to purchase for the use of the State, at
a sum not exceeding four thousand dollars, the painting rep-
resenting the Planting of the Colony of Maryland under
Leonard Calvert, executed by Frank B. Mayer.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the Comptroller be and he
is hereby authorized and directed to draw his warrant upon
the Treasurer, in favor of the said Frank B. Mayer, in such
sum, not exceeding four thousand dollars, as the board of pub-
lic works shall certify in writing to the said Comptroller has
been agreed upon for said purchase, should the said board of
public works determine to purchase said painting.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That this act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.
