Effective.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That this act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.

Approved April 6th, 1894.

CHAPTER 295.

AN ACT to amend Article 23 of the Code of Public Gen-
eral Laws, title "Corporations," sub-title "Insurance Depart-
ment," by adding further new additional sections after
Section 143 D, to be known as Sections 143 E, 143 F, 143 G,
143 H, 143 I, 143 J, 143 K, 143 L, 143 M, 143 N, 143 O, 143 P,
143 Q, 143 R.

New sections

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That article 23 of the Code of Public General
Laws, title "Corporations," sub-title "Insurance Department,"
be amended by adding a sub-title designated "Fraternal Socie-
ties, Orders or Associations," and also adding fifteen new
sections, to follow immediately after section 143 D of said
article, to be designated as sections 143 E, 143 F, 143 G, 143 H,
143 I, 143 J, 143 K, 143 L, 143 M, 143 N, 143 o, 143 P, 143 Q and
143 E, to read, as to said respective sections, as follows :

FRATERNAL BENEFICIARY SOCIETIES, ORDERS OR ASSOCIATIONS.

societies.

SEC. 143 E. A fraternal beneficiary association is hereby
declared to be a corporation, society or voluntary association,
formed or organized and carried on for the sole benefit of its
members and their beneficiaries, and not for profit. Each such
association shall have a lodge system, with ritualistic form of

provision only for the payment of benefits in case of sickness,
disability or death of its members, subject to their compliance
