the deputy marshal shall receive two thousand dollars per
annum; each captain shall receive thirty dollars per week ;.
each lieutenant twenty-five dollars per week; each round ser-
geant twenty-three dollars per week; each sergeant twenty dol-
lars per week, and each turnkey eighteen dollars per week; the
pay herein provided for police officers, policemen and detec-
tives shall continue in force until a change shall be made by

law. They are authorized and empowered to appoint thirty-
five additional officers, who shall be known as probation
officers, who shall hold their places without a commission until
vacancies shall occur in the regular force, when they shall be
appointed to such vacancies in the order of their appointment
on the probationary list; provided, that at the time of said
vacancy they shall, in the judgment of the board of police
commissioners, be fully competent in all respects to be com-
missioned for the full term of four years; the pay of said
officers so appointed as aforesaid shall be twelve dollars per
week, to be paid at the same time and in the same manner as
the other officers of said police force are paid.

Repeal.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That all acts or parts of acts
inconsistent with this act be and the same are hereby repealed.

Effective.

SEC.3. And be it enacted, That this act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 241.

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact with amendments, Sections
sixty-eight and sixty-eight A, of Article one of the Code of
Public Local Laws of Maryland, entitled "Allegany
County," sub-title "Cumberland," and to add additional
sections, to be known as sixty-three A and sixty-four A.

Repeal.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That sections sixty-eight and sixty-eight A of
article one of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland,
entitled "Allegany County," subtitle "Cumberland," be and
the same are hereby repealed and re-enacted to read as follows ;
and that said article one of said Code of Public Local Laws,
be and the same is hereby further amended by adding thereto
