FRANK BROWN, ESQUIRE, GOVERNOR.

authorized to render such financial assistance to immigrants as
will enable them to occupy and cultivate lands in this State.
The said The Maryland Immigration and Trust Company,
shall have the right and power to purchase and hold real
estate in any of the counties or municipalities of this State,
and to sell and convey the same or any part thereof upon the
instalment plan, or such other plan as the stockholders or
directors of said company shall determine, and to construct,
equip and operate, and to assist in the construction, equipment
and operation of steam, electric and other railways in this
State for the purpose of aiding in the development of said
lands and the settlement of immigrants; and in the construc-
tion and operation of such railways, the said company shall
have the right to lay tracks upon and to use such of the high-
ways, roads and streets in the State of Maryland, as may be
granted to it by the respective County Commissioners, or
municipal authorities within the State of Maryland, and the
said County Commissioners and municipal authorities are
hereby authorized to grant to the said company such rights in
and to the roads and streets within their respective counties
and municipalities, upon such terms as to them shall seem
proper; and for the construction and operation of the said
railways, the said company shall have all the rights and powers
pertaining to the condemnation of land for railroad purposes,
as are now granted to railroad corporations under article 23
of the Code of Public General Laws.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.

Approved March 31st, 1894.

CHAPTER 171.

AN ACT providing for more rapid transit upon railways
which may be laid upon the Baltimore and Liberty turn-
pike road; and to enlarge the powers of the Baltimore and
Liberty Turnpike Company.


SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the Baltimore and Liberty Turnpike Com-
pany, and such other persons or corporations to whom the
privilege of laying tracks upon said turnpike road, have been
