Assembly of Maryland, passed in the year 1898, by
adding a new section thereto, to be included in Section 6,
title "General Powers," and to follow immediately after
the sub-title "Condemnation of Property," said new sec-
. tion to provide for the assessment of benefits on property
benefited by the establishment or enlargement of parks,
squares, gardens or other public places.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Article 4 of the Code of Public Local Laws of

Maryland, title "City of Baltimore," as the same was
exacted by Chapter 123 of the General Assembly of Mary-
land, passed in the year 1898, be and the same is hereby
amended by adding a new section thereto, said new section
to follow immediately after the sub-title "Condemnation of
Property" of Section 6, title " General Powers," and to read
as follows: The Mayor and City Council of Baltimore shall
have full power and authority to provide by ordinance for
ascertaining whether any and what amount of benefits will
accrue to the owner or possessor of any ground or improve-
ments within the city of Baltimore by reason of the estab-
lishment or enlargement of any parks, squares, gardens or
other public places for which said owner or possessor ought
to pay compensation, and to provide by ordinance for assess-
ing or levying the amounts of such benefits on the property
of persons so benefited; provided, that provision is made
therein for reasonable notice to the person or persons against
whom such benefits are to be assessed, and provided, that
provision be made for appeals to the Baltimore City Court
by any person or persons interested, including the Mayor
and City Council of Baltimore, from the decision of any
board, commissioners or other persons appointed or author-
ized to assess such benefits.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect from the date of its passage.
