Treasurer.
Section 184 Al7. The treasurer shall before he enters upon

his duties take the oath prescribed for members of the Coun-
cil, and execute a bond in such conditions for such amount
as may be prescribed by the ordinances of the corporation,
issued by some responsible Maryland bonding corporation.
He shall have the custody of all corporation funds, and
shall pay out the same only upon orders of the Council,
signed by the Mayor and countersigned by the clerk. He
shall receive such compensation as the Council may provide.

Bailiff.
Section 184 A 18. The bailiff shall, before entering upon

his duties, take the same oath as the members of the Coun-
cil, and execute a bond for the faithful performance of his
duties in some responsible Maryland bonding corporation,
with conditions and amount such as the Council may by
ordinance prescribe; he shall perform the police duties of
the town, and is clothed with the powers of a constable
under the general law; he shall be subject to the orders of
the Mayor and City Council, shall collect all taxes and other
claims, fines and assessments that may be due the town, and
shall pay over and account for the same at such time and in
such manner as may be prescribed by ordinance of the
Council; he shall receive a salary of not exceeding forty
dollars monthly for his services as bailiff and such commis-
sion not exceeding five per cent, upon the moneys collected
by him when collected as the Council may determine.
SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this Act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.

AN ACT to incorporate the Chesapeake Life Insurance
Company.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
