bridge, which map shall be prepared within reasonable time.
Whenever a new road shall be opened or accepted, or an old
road altered or closed, its location or the fact that it has
been altered or closed shall be promptly designated on said
map. Said County Commissioners may at their discretion
have finger boards or sign posts placed at roads, crossings or
intersections designating the distance to the nearest promi-
nent point.

Section 136. The said County Commissioners shall
annually before the first day of March, except for the

year 1906, when they shall as soon as practicable after
the passsage of this Act, appoint a road commissioner
(who shall be an owner of real estate) for each road
district and road sub-district of the county, who shall
hold office for one year (unless removed for cause by the
County Commissioners), and until his successor shall be
appointed and qualify. They shall receive detailed instruc-
tions from the County Commissioners as to the method of
their work, the time and manner of doing the same, and
shall make a detailed report in writing to the County Com-
missioners at least every three months, showing the road
and bridges repaired, the amount of labor and money
expended on each, and calling attention to such facts as
require their consideration. It shall be the duty of the
road commissioner so appointed to take direct care and
charge on and in behalf of the County Commissioners of
all roads and bridges in his district, and he shall see that
no obstruction, hindrance or injury is permitted upon or to
any of them. Whenever any road shall form the boundary
between districts or any bridge shall lie partly in one district
and partly in another, the County Commissioners shall assign
to the road commissioner for each district the whole or portion
of such road or whole of such bridge over which he shall have
supervision as aforesaid. Said road commissioners shall
frequently inspect all roads and bridges in their respective
districts, and shall promptly report to the County Commis-
sioners any defects therein or the need for repairs and
improvements thereto. They shall keep all roads and bridges
in their respective districts in general good repair, and to
