to secure in the waters or bays an ebb and flow of the salt
water for the breeding and cultivation of oysters in any
manner deemed proper and not conflicting with the laws of
this State or of the United States; and whereas, the Isle of
Wight, Assawoman and Sinnepuxent bays aforesaid have
from the closing of inlets formerly existing, been for many
years past unhealthy fresh water, and unfit for the natural
growth and cultivation of oysters; and whereas, the land
bordering on said bays and tributaries have greatly depre-
ciated in value from that cause; therefore,
SEC. 8. And be it enacted, That in consideration of this

cutting and making of the inlet aforesaid, and maintaining
the same, and the great advantages tendered to the adja-
cent land thereby and the increased value to the State of
Maryland, and to Worcester county, and to citizens thereof,
by salting the Isle of Wight, Assawoman and Sinnepuxent
bays by the regular ebb and flow of the tide through the
inlet aforesaid, the State of Maryland does hereby grant and
convey unto the said the Sinnepuxent Salt Water Inlet Com-
pany, all those bottoms of the bay or bays easterly or south-
easterly of the following described line, to wit: Beginning
at the most westerly point of the islands in Chincoteague
bay, known as "Whittington Point," or Whittington Point
on the maps of the Maryland Geological Survey; thence run-
ning northerly to the most easterly point of the islands
known as "Robins Marsh" on said maps; thence running
northeasterly to the most southerly point of Sinnepuxent
neck, so called, known as "South Point" of said maps; thence
running southeasterly on a line between said most southerly
point of said Sinnepuxent neck, and the most southwesterly
point of the islands known as "Great Egging Beach" on said
map, to the middle point of said line; thence running north-
easterly and northerly on a line midway between the east
and west shore lines of Sinnepuxent, Isle of Wight and
Assawoman bays, so called, to the northern boundary line of
the State of Maryland.
SEC. 9. And be it enacted, That whenever it can or shall be
shown to the satisfaction of the Commissioner of the Land
Office that the Sinnepuxent Salt Water Inlet Company have
constructed the inlet connecting the bays aforesaid and the
Atlantic ocean, so as to secure the ebb and flow of salt water
through the said inlet in sufficient quantities to salt the
