vide for the issuing of licenses or permits for all hawk-
ing, peddling and vending of wares and merchandise of
every description upon the streets and highways of the
town, and to issue licenses to all itinerant peddlers who may
go from house to house to vend or sell any wares or mer-
chandise; to regulate and provide for the issuing of licenses
to all traveling persons who dispense medicines or medical
advice; they shall have power to demand a license from all
players and showmen exhibiting upon the streets or in tents
within the limits of said town; to levy a tax and impose a
license upon dogs, and impose a license upon all gas com-
panies, electric light companies, water companies and tele-
phone companies, located or doing business in said town,
provided no greater sum than fifty dollars be charged for
any one license.

in front of their premises and keep the same in repair, the
burgess and commissioners may prescribe the proper grade
and require the curbing to be set up in accordance therewith
and such materials used as shall secure a safe, solid and
convenient footway for the public, and the burgess and com-
missioners may also require the property holders to make a
paved gutter and waterway outside the curb the length of his
premises according to such grade and specifications as the
board shall furnish; if the work be not done within three
months from the date of notification, the burgess and com-
missioners may order the same to be done at the expense of
the owners of the different lots in front of which the same
shall be done, and the cost thereof shall be lien against the
property and collected as town taxes are collected.
