SEC. 2. Any person violating the provisions of the pre-
ceding section shall be guilty of a misdemeanor, and upon
conviction thereof shall be fined a sum not exceeding one
hundred dollars.
SEC. 3. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 742.
AN ACT to appropriate a sum of money to pay for the pub-
lication of certain notices to creditors of the Chesapeake
and Ohio Canal Company of the waiver and release of the
State of Maryland upon the corpus of the Chesapeake and
Ohio Canal upon its tolls and revenues in favor of certain
creditors of the Canal Company.
WHEREAS, In pursuance of an Act of the General Assembly

of Maryland, passed at its January Session, 1900, Chapter
270, the clerk of the Circuit Court for Washington county
caused to be published in the Daily Mail and Globe, of
Hagerstown, Md., the Evening Times, of Cumberland, Md.,
and the Advocate, of Rockville, Md., newspapers published
in the State of Maryland, a notice to creditors of the Chesa-
peake and Ohio Canal Company of the waiver and release of
the State of Maryland upon the corpus of the Chesapeake
and Ohio canal upon its tolls and revenues in favor of cer-
tain creditors of the canal company, the provisions of said
Act requiring the clerk to insert said notice in a newspaper
in each county in this State through which said canal passes,
the cost of said publication to be paid as the said court may
direct; and
WHEREAS, Said Circuit Court for Washington county did,
on the 25th day of January, A. D. 1904, order that the
Comptroller of the Treasury of the State of Maryland pay to
the above named newspapers the sum of twelve dollars each
for said publication; therefore,
