laws shall be committed in the presence of the policeman, he
shall arrest the offender without warrant, and if between
sunset on one day and sunrise on the next day, or at
any time on Sunday, the policeman has occasion to arrest
any person or persons for any offense committed in said
town, whether the offense was committed in the presence of
the officer or otherwise, and the policeman believes that
under the circumstances he ought to make the arrest without
delay, said officer may make the arrest without a warrant and
may place the prisoner in the lockup until the following
morning at such hour as a warrant can be obtained. And
the policeman shall perform such other duties mentioned in
this chapter or in the ordinances of the town as the Mayor
and Council shall assign to him. He shall pay over all
fines coming into his hands to the town treasurer monthly,
and the amount thereof shall be entered upon the minutes ;

ditioned that he will faithfully discharge all the duties
appertaining to the office of policeman of Pocomoke City
and account for and pay over to the treasurer monthly all
money collected by him and belonging to the said town,
said bond to be approved and rendered in like manner as
the bond of the tax collector. If any vacancy shall occur in
the offices of town clerk, town treasurer or policeman the
Mayor, by and with the advise and approval of the Council,
shall appoint a successor to serve out the unexpired term for
which the original appointment was made.

collect the taxes levied by the Mayor and Council under the
annual levy. He shall hold his office for one year from the
date of his bond herein required and until his successor is
appointed and has qualified by taking the oath of office and
the approval of his bond. For the collection of the annual
levy placed in his hands for collection he shall have a second
year after the said first year has expired, and on his petition
the Circuit Court for Worcester county may -extend his time
six months longer to complete his collection. He shall
