CHAP. 544

several Acts and parts of Acts amendatory thereto, and to
re-enact said Article 33 with amendments; and also to
repeal and re-enact Section 116 of said Article 33 of the
Code of Public General Laws of Maryland of 1904, title
"Elections," sub-title "Compensation;" said section
being Section 110 of Article 33, Code of Public General
Laws of Maryland of 1888.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 69 of Article 33 of the Code of Public

Repeal and
re-enact.

General Laws of Maryland of 1904, title " Elections," sub-
title " Count of the Ballots," being Section 64 of said article
as it was enacted by the Act of 1896, Chapter 202, entitled
" An Act to repeal Article 33, entitled ' Elections,' of the
Code of Public General Laws of Maryland," and the several
Acts and parts of Acts amendatory thereto, be and the same
is hereby repealed and re-enacted, so as to read as follows :

69. As soon as the election polls shall have been closed,
the judges in their several precincts shall immediately, and

canvassed.

at the place of polling, proceed, as hereinbefore provided, to
canvass the votes cast, having first sealed up the unused bal-
lots remaining of the package last broken by them, and
endorse the same with their signatures as unused ballots.
The canvass shall not be adjourned nor postponed until it
shall have been fully completed, or until the several state-
ments and tally-sheets hereinafter required to be made by
the judges and clerks shall have been made out, signed and
sealed by them. The judges shall have the right to station
police officers or officers of the peace within the room wherein
such canvass is made, in order to keep the peace. The
challengers and watchers shall be allowed to be present inside
the guard-rail and so near that they can see that the judges
and clerks are faithfully performing their duties.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That Sections 73 and

Returns," being respectively Sections 68 and 69 of said
Article as it was enacted by the Act of 1896, Chapter 202,
entitled " An Act to repeal Article 33, entitled 'Elections,'
of the Code of Public General Laws of Maryland," and the
several Acts and parts of Acts amendatory thereto, be and
