SEC. 28. And be it enacted, That the treasurer shall appoint
a deputy, who shall perform such duties as lie, the said treas-
urer may require, and for whose official conduct said treasurer
shall be responsible, and who shall act instead and place in his
absence, and said clerk shall be paid an annual salary of seven
hundred and twenty dollars by Wicomico county.

CHAP. 76.

SEC. 29. And be it enacted, That the said county treasurer
shall be subject to removal from office at all times by the
judges of the Circuit Court for Wicomico County upon con-
viction for wilful neglect of duty, misdemeanors or malfeas-
ance in office, and said conviction shall be upon presenting by
the grand jury of Wicomico county.

SEC. 30. And be it enacted, That the County Commissioners
shall appoint and furnish the treasurer an office in the court
house for the transaction of his official business, which office
shall be the County Commissioner's office, and the said office
shall be open for that purpose each day of the year, Sunday
and legal holidays excepted, from eight o'clock A.. M. to
five P. M.

SEC. 31. And be it enacted, That the provisions of the Code
of Public General Laws of Maryland now in force or here-
after enacted applicable to collectors of State and county taxes,
except when the same are repealed by or inconsistent with the
provisions of this Act, shall be held to apply to the treasurer
of said county, who, as to his powers, rights, duties and liabili-
ties, both civil and criminal, and those of his bond or bonds-
man, shall be in all respects in the same position as State and
county collector of taxes, except as herein provided.

SEC. 32. And be it enacted, That all Acts or parts of Acts
inconsistent with the provisions of this Act, are hereby
repealed so far as they apply to Wicomico county.

SEC. 33. And be it enacted, That the treasurer shall, at least

once in each year correct the list of transfers on the tax books
of the county, in accordance with the list furnished by the
clerk of the Circuit Court for said county; this correction to
be made before the time set for the making of the annual levy.

SEC. 34. And be it enacted, That this Act shall take effect
from the date of its passage, but nothing herein contained is
intended or shall be construed to interfere with or defeat any
of the powers and duties of collectors of taxes now appointed,
or any of the proceedings already instituted by the tax
collectors of the several districts for the collection of taxes for
the years 1898, 1899, 1900, approved April 7, 1900.
