CH A P. 631.

lishment of building lines and building, regulations ; for pro-
hibiting the carrying of concealed weapons; for prohibiting
the discharge of firearms, firecrackers, torpedoes and other
explosives; for preventing swine, cattle, fowls, dogs or other
animals from running at large on the streets; for licen-
sing theatrical or other amusements; for the suppression of
gambling, vice and immorality; for apprehending and punish-
ing all tramps and vagrants; they may pass all ordinances
necessary from time to time to carry out and enforce the fore-
going provisions, and to give full force and effect to the
powers and authority conferred on said corporation, and may
enforce such ordinances by reasonable fines and penalties, not
exceeding twenty-five dollars in any one case, as may appear
to them right ; they may recover said fine or penalty by an
action of debt, and in addition thereto, may imprison the
offender until the fine be paid, not exceeding thirty days, such
imprisonment to be in the town lock-up, if one be provided, or
in the county jail, and the sheriff of Prince George's county
shall receive and confine any person so committed.

SEC. 15. And be it enacted, That the Mayor and Common
Council may pass such ordinances as they may deem neces-
sary for the preservation of the health of the town, and
remove all nuisances from, and prohibit all business within
the corporate limits thereof, as shall in their opinion injuriously
affect the sanitary condition thereof.

SEC. 16. The Mayor and Common Council shall have
authority to extend the water mains as the interest of the
town, from time to time demands, the expenses of said exten-
sion to be paid out of the funds of the general revenue of the
town.

Assessors
to be
appointed.

SEC. 17. Be it enacted, That the Mayor and Common
Council shall in June, 1902, and each four years thereafter,
appoint three assessors, who shall have the same qualifications
as those required for the Mayor and Common Council, as to
residence and property, who shall, under the direction of said
Mayor and Common Council, make an assessment of all prop-
erty, and assess separately land, improvements and personal
property at a fair cash value, at public sale, as near as they
may be able to determine the same. The said Mayor and
Common Council shall provide by ordinances for hearing
appeals from any assessment which may be made. They
shall cause to be made from time to time, during the four
years' period, by the treasurer, assessments on improvements
made, and all other property not contained in the general
assessment list. They may, in their discretion, appoint the
town treasurer as one of such assessors. They may make such
