99. That the said Commissioners of Denton shall have
power to provide in any of their by-laws and ordinances for
a fine or penalty in amount not exceeding fifty dollars, to be
imposed upon any person or persons for the violation thereof;
and the said fines or penalties may be recovered in the name
of said corporation from the person or persons liable thereto,
before any justice of the peace for Caroline county, like other
debts; but if any person or persons shall violate any of the
ordinances or by-laws of the said corporation by loud or bois-
terous talking, or by using profane or vulgar language, or by
immodest or vulgar behavior or exposure, or by otherwise dis-
turbing the peace and good order of the said town of Denton,
or by obstructing the streets and sidewalks with unnecessary
assemblies, then it shall be lawful and it is hereby made the
dnty of the bailiff and the policeman of said town, and the
sheriff of Caroline county, and any constable thereof, to arrest
any person so offending and violating the ordinance of the said
town and to take such persons before some justice of the peace
for the said county, and upon conviction of said offence or
offences, the said offender or offenders shall be fined not less
than fifty cents nor more than ten dollars, with costs, the fine
to go to the use of the paid corporation; and in default of pay-
ment of tine and costs as aforesaid, the person or persons so
convicted shall be committed to the jail in said county until
said tine and costs are paid; such imprisonment shall not con-
tinue longer than ten days, and the bailiff and policemen of
Denton are hereby clothed with all the authority conferred
upon constables by the laws of this State, and are empowered
to take cognizance of all offences committed in said town, as
well as those against the laws of the State of Maryland, as
against the by-laws and ordinance of the said town.

CHAP. 447.

Power to
provide for
punishment
of persons
violating
ordinance,
etc,

104. The County Commissioners of Caroline county shall
authorize and direct the treasurer of said county to pay on
the first day of January, in the year nineteen hundred and
three, and every year thereafter, to the commissioners of
Denton, two hundred dollars, to be appropriated and used by
said commissioners of Denton for the repair and improvement
of the streets, roads and lanes within the limits of said town,
and for such other improvements therein as the commissioners
may deem proper.

Authority to
pay a sum of

104 F. That the commissioners may provide by ordinance
for a discount of not exceeding five per centum on such taxes
as shall be paid to the treasurer of the said town within such
time after the levy as shall be prescribed therein.

104 G. All able-bodied male citizens residing in the town of
Denton, twenty-one years of age and over, shall be compelled
