purposes in the same manner as it is authorized under its
charter to acquire property for railroad purposes ; provided,
that all the powers and franchises granted herein to this cor-
poration, as far as they appertain or relate to Baltimore city,
shall be subject to the provisions of chapter 123 of the Acts
of 1898, known as the Baltimore City Charter, and all Acts
amendatory and supplementary thereto, and all ordinances of
the Mayor and City Council of Baltimore made in pursuance
thereto.

SEC. 6. And be it enacted, That this Act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 330.

AN ACT to re pea) and re-enact with amendments Section 61 A
of Article 77 of the Code of Public General Laws of
Maryland, title ''Public Education," sub-title "Text Books,"
as said Section was enacted by the Act of 1896, Chapter
135, Sections 2 and. 3.

CHAP. 380.

SECTION 1.Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That section 61 A, Article 77 of the Code of
Public General Laws of Maryland, title "Public Education,"
sub-title "Text Books," as said section was enacted by the
Act of 1896, chapter 135, sections 2 and 3, be and the same
is hereby repealed and re-enacted, so as to read as follows :
Section 61 A. The sum of one hundred and fifty thousand

dollars is hereby appropriated to be paid by the State Treas-
urer upon the warrant of the Comptroller, on the first day of
August, 1902, and annually thereafter, and to be expended, or
as much thereof as may be necessary for the purchase of text
books, as provided in this Article. The whole of said sum
shall be apportioned by the Comptroller in the month of July
of each and every year, according to and based upon the total
number of different pupils enrolled, as disclosed by the
statistics of the report of the State Board of Education for
fiscal year ending July 31, 1901, and he shall immediately
thereafter notify the treasurer of the several Boards of County
School Commissioners of the counties and the city of Balti-
more of the amount thus found to be due to each, and the
same shall be paid to the treasurer of the Board of School
Commissioners of Baltimore city and the several counties,
upon the draft of the president and secretary of the several
Boards of County School Commissioners and the city of Balti-
more aforesaid.
