be authorized to acquire ; and to invest its capital stocks or
assets by way of any form of loan or in any property which
it may be authorized to acquire, and to execute all deeds,
assignments, transfers or other instruments necessary to
enable it to fully exercise all the powers of acquisition or dis-
position hereby conferred.

CHAP. 208.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That the president and
directors of the German Fire Insurance Company of Balti-
more shall by that name have perpetual succession, and that
the existence of said corporation shall be perpetual.
SEC. 3. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 202.
AN ACT to provide a salary for the Sheriff of Allegany
County in lieu of the fees now paid him, and to repeal and
re-enact with amendments Sections 226, 227, 227 A, 227 B,
227 C and 227 D of Article number one of the Code of
Public Local Laws, entitled "Allegany County," sub-title
"Sheriff," as said Sections were enacted by Chapter 83 of
'the Acts of 1890.

Perpetual
succession.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That sections 226, 227, 227 A, 227s, 227 o and
227 D of Article number one of the Code of Public Local

Repeal.

Laws, title "Allegany County," sub-title "Sheriff," as said
sections were enacted by chapter number 83 of the Acts of
1890, be and the same are hereby repealed and two new sec-
tions to be known as sections 226 and 227 are hereby enacted
in lieu thereof, to read as follows :
Section 226. The sheriff of Allegany county shall receive

from said county a salary of three thousand dollars each year,
payable quarterly, in lieu of all fees, except fees in civil cases
payable by others than Allegany county or the State of Mary-
land, now payable to him under the law, or compensation of
any kind from either Allegany county or the State of Mary-
land, and shall be paid no other or additional sum by either
Allegany county or the State of Maryland for any service
whatsoever.

Section 227. The County Commissioners shall allow said
sheriff each year: first, a sum not exceeding one thousand
dollars for a deputy ; second, three hundred dollars for a turn-
key ; third, three hundred dollars for a cook to the jail;
