CHAPTER 345.
AN ACT to donate to the Maryland Academy of Science the
articles forming part of the exhibits of the State of Mary-
land at the World's Industrial and Cotton Centennial Expo-
sition, held at New Orleans in the year 1884, and at the
World's Columbian Exposition, held at Chicago in the year
1893, now deposited in the Land Office of Maryland.

WHEREAS, There are now deposited in the Land Office sundry
articles relating to the natural history of this State, which formed
a part of the exhibits of the State of Maryland at the World's
Industrial and Cotton Centennial Exhibition, held in the city
of New Orleans in the year 1894, and at the World's Colum-
bian Exposition, held in the city of Chicago in the year 1893;
and

WHEREAS, The Land Office is wholly without facilities for
the display of said articles, and they are daily deteriorating in
value for want of proper care and attention; and
WHEREAS, It is desirable that the said articles should be

placed where they will be of educational value and afford pleas-
ure and instructionrto the people, and the Commissioner of the
Land Office, in his report to the Governor, has recommended
that they be donated to the Maryland Academy of Sciences, in
the city of Baltimore, an institution which is open daily and is
free to all citizens of this State.

Preamble.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That all of said articles mentioned in the preamble to
this Act, forming part of the exhibits of this State at the
World's Industrial and Cotton Centennial Exposition, held in
the city of New Orleans in the year 1884, and at the World's
Columbian Exposition, held in the city of Chicago in the year
1893. now deposited in the Land Office of this State, and the
cases in which they are contained, be, and the same are hereby
donated to the said Maryland Academy of Sciences, in the city
of Baltimore, to become a part of its permanent exhibits; and
the Commissioner of the Land Office is hereby authorized and
directed to deliver the same to the said Maryland Academy of
Sciences, or its agent, and to take an itemized receipt for said
articles and cases, and to preserve said receipt among the records
of his office.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.
