the year next following said levy; and it shall be the duty of
the several collectors in the month of January to sit for two
days at the principal town or some convenient place of public
resort in each of their collection districts for the purpose of
receiving taxes, due notice of such sitting to be given by adver-
tisement by the County Commissioners.

218. That on the first day of June in each year after the
year in which the levy is made taxes shall be deemed to be in
arrears and interest charged from the preceding first day of
January, the date when the same becomes due and payable, and
immediately after the first of June the collectors shall deliver
to each delinquent in hi» election district an account of assess-
ment and the taxes and interest due thereon, with a notice and
warning to such delinquent thereto attached, that unless pay-
ments in full be made within sixty days from the delivery of
such notice that the same shall be collected by process of law,
and all tax bills unpaid on the first day of August after the
serving of such notice shall be immediately collected according
to law by the said collectors, who shall forthwith proceed to
levy upon, seize, advertise and sell the property of such delin-
quent or so much thereof as may be necessary to pay said taxes,
interest charges and costs of sale, and the said collectors are
clothed with all the powers possessed by collectors of taxes
under the Code of Public General Laws of Maryland as now
existing or as hereafter amended, and their bond shall be liable
for the faithful performance of the duties prescribed by this
act.

Notice to
delinquents.

219. That all taxpayers who shall pay their taxes in the
month of October next succeeding the levy of the same shall
be entitled to a discount of four per cent, on the amount due,
and all who pay in November following the levy of same shall
be entitled to a discount of three per cent., which shall be
allowed by the collectors to such persons so paying, and shall
be allowed to the collector in his settlement with the County
Commissioners, said discount to apply only to county taxes.

220. The County Commissioners, on the first Tuesday in
April in the year eighteen hundred and ninety-eight, shall
appoint a clerk to said commissioners, who shall continue clerk
for the term of two years, his successor to be elected or ap-
pointed by said County Commissioners every two years there-

as such shall receive and deposit, as hereinafter prescribed, all
money that shall be collected by said collectors of county
taxes, and all other money due the county, and shall pay out
