per mile, and in the same proportion for any less number; for
every horse and rider or led or driven horse, and for every
bicycle, tricycle or similar device and rider, one-half cent per
mile; and for every pleasure carriage or vehicle, the above
rates and one half of said rates additional, and in the same pro-
portion for half a mile where the distance traveled is more than
one-fourth of a mile, and for one mile where the distance trav-
eled is more than half a mile; provided, that nothing herein
contained shall prevent said company commuting for toll by the
week, month or year.

Effective.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 216.

AN ACT to incorporate the Trustees of the Annual Confer-
ence of the Maryland District of the African Union First
Colored Methodist Protestant Church.

A body cor-
porate.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary,
land, That Charles H. Williams, John H. Medley, Rufus E.
Moore, Alfred Hammond, Noah J. Jones, Geo. H. Williams,
Aquilla Scott, Robert Jordan and Stephen B. Wilson, and their
successors, duly elected and appointed in the manner herein-
after provided, be and they are hereby made and constituted
a body politic and corporate, to have perpetual succession by
the name, style and title of "The Trustees of .the Annual Con-
ference of the Maryland District of the African Union First
Colored Methodist Protestant Church," and by that name,
style and title are hereby made and declared able and capable,
in law, to take, receive, hold, possess and acquire, by gift,
devise, bequest, grant or otherwise, lands, tenements, goods,
chattels, estates and property of any kind whatsoever, and the
same again to grant, devise, pledge, alien or dispose of; pro-
vided, that the clear yearly income of the real and personal
estate of said corporation shall not exceed the sum of fifty
thousand dollars.

corporation and its successors, shall defeat or annul any pur-
