(10) notaries public for Baltimore city, in addition to the num-
ber now authorized by law.

Effective.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.

Approved March 30th, 1896.

CHAPTER 138.

AN ACT to change the name of the Hampden and Waverly
Electric Light and Power Company, to that of the Northern
Electric Company, and to amend the charter of said
company, by repealing Section 8 of Chapter 160, of the
Acts of the General Assembly of Maryland, passed at its
January session, in the year 1890, and to re-enact said Sec-
tion with amendments.

Repeal.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That section 8, chapter 160, of the acts of the General
Assembly of Maryland, passed at its January session, in the
year 1890, be and the same is hereby, repealed and re-enacted,
so as to read as follows:

Subscriptions
to stock, etc

8. And be it enacted, That upon every subscription of
said stock, the sum of ten dollars ($10) shall be paid on
each and every share subscribed, and the residue shall be paid
as prescribi'd by the president and directors; and said company
is hereby further empowered to purchase, lease, build or con-
struct surface or elevated railways in said city and county ;
provided, however, that none of the highways of said city or
county shall be used by said company, for the purpose of con-
structing such railways without the prior consent of the Mayor
and City Council of Baltimore, or the County Commissioners
of Baltimore county, as the case may be, and authority
is hereby given the said Mayor and City Council and the
said County Commissioners, to give such consent; and said
company to commence operation within two years from the
date of the passage of this act; otherwise, this act is to be null
and void.
