of the Town Council. All the officers elected by the Town
Council or appointed by the Mayor, shall hold their respective
office for one year from the first Monday of April in the year
for which they are appointed and until their successors are
elected and qualified.

169. The Town Council shall, as soon as practicable, provide
by ordinance for a survey and map of the limits of said town,
and for the location upon said map, of the streets and alleys
already laid out and opened for public use, and also the streets
and alleys heretofore laid out on the original plat of said town,
and on the plats of the several additions to eaid town, which
ihave not been opened for public use, and such maps, when
made and approved by the Town Council and Mayor, shall be
recorded in the office of the Clerk of the Circuit Court for
Garrett county, and when so recorded, said maps or a copy
properly certified by said clerk, under the seal of his office,
shall be evidence. The limits of said town as they have here-
tofore been established by law, shall remain. The Mayor and
Town Council shall have power to extend the limits of said
town, not exceeding one-half mile from its present limits, when
in their discretion they may deem proper to so do. The limits
of the said town of Oakland, shall begin at a stone marked
eight hundred and forty-one, and running thence north, sixty-
seven degrees, west one hundred perches, south twenty-three
degrees, west two hundred perches, south sixty seven degrees,
east ten perches to the summit of the Hoppole Ridge, thence
with the summit of said ridge, south sixty-seven degrees, east
one hundred perches, north twenty-three degrees, east one hun-
dred and seventeen perches, thence to the place of beginning.

Election of
mayor and
council.

170. The inhabitants of the town of Oakland who have
resided therein for six months next preceding any municipal
election, and who are qualified to vote for members of the
General Assembly of Maryland, (if any objections are made
to any one voting) the said qualification shall be determined
by sworn testimony before said judges of election, when, in
their discretion, they deem proper to take the same, shall, on
the second Monday in March, eighteen hundred and ninety-
six, and on the same day in every second year thereafter, elect
by ballot one person to be Mayor of said town; and the said
voters, qualified as aforesaid, shall, on the second Monday in
March, eighteen hundred and ninety-six, and on the same day
in every year thereafter, elect three persons to be members of
the Town Council; and the members of the Town Council,
who have been elected and are now in office, shall hold their
