the assessor shall write the words "claimed to be exempt."
The said assessors appointed to act in any county of this State,
as soon as they shall have completed their work of assessment
shall deliver their returns to the County Commissioners of
their respective counties.
The assessors appointed for the assessment districts in the
city of Baltimore, shall notify their Board of Control and
Review, that they have completed their valuation and assess-
ment, and at the same time deliver their said returns to said
board. Said assessors shall also return to the County Commis-
sioners of teir respective counties and to the several Boards
of Control and Review of Baltimore city, all schedules and
returns filed with them by all persons residing in their respec-
tive assessment districts, and also all books, documents and
papers used by them during their proceedings as said assessors,
and no payments shall be made to said assessors for services
rendered until said documents and books are returned to the
proper authorities for receiving the same.

182. It shall be the duty of the said several Boards of
County Commissioners acting as Boards of Control and Review,
and the said Boards of Control and Review in Baltimore city,
to give two weeks' notice by publication prior to the second
Tuesday of September, eighteen hundred and ninety-six, or
thereafter, and if there be no newspaper published in the
county for which any Board of County Commissioners is
appointed as such Board of Control and Review, such notice
shall be given by notice set up at the court house door in said
county, and other public places in said county. Each of said
Boards of County Commissioners, acting as Boards of Control
and Review, and the Boards of Control and Review for Balti-
more city, shall assemble on the second Tuesday in September,
eighteen hundred and ninety-six, or in case of time for com-
pleting the assessment, shall have been extended by the Gover-
nor, as provided by this act, then upon the day on which by
his direction said assessment must be returned, and shall con-
tinue in session daily thereafter, except on Sunday, from nine
o'clock A. M., until four o'clock P. M., and shall, on each of
said days, remain in session not less than six hours, and shall
receive pay only for the days on which they shall actually be
in session. Said several Boards of County Commissioners
shall receive as compensation for the services to be rendered
under this act, the sum of four dollars per day for each day in
which they shall actually be in session, said payments to be
made by the county in which their duties are respectively per-
