SEC. 3 And be it enacted, That if any slave or slaves,
shall, without the direction of his, her, or their master, mis-
tress or overseer, commit, or cause to be committed, any of
the offences prohibited by this act, he, she or they, shall for
every such offence, by the judgment of a justice of the peace,
be punished with a whipping, not exceeding twenty lashes,
Provided always, That the master or mistress of such slave,
or any other person, may redeem such slave so convicted,
from said punishment, by the payment of the fine that would
by this act have been imposed in the case of a free person.

An act supplementary to an act, entitled, An act for the dis-
tribution of a certain fund, for the purpose of establishing
Free Schools in the several counties therein named, passed
at December Session eighteen hundred and sixteen.

WHEREAS, by the act to which this is a supplement, the
following persons were appointed commissioners for Calvert
county, to wit: Richard Graham, Thomas Blake, Samuel
L. Smith, John Somervell, Thomas Reynolds, Thomas C,
Dare, John Broome^ John T. Bond, and Richard S. Parran,
all of whom are since dead, or removed from said county, ex-
cept Richard Graham, Thomas C. Dare, and John T. Bond,
Therefore,

Preamble

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
the following persons, to wit: Richard Graham, Joseph W.
Revnolds, Mordecai Smith, Thomas C, Dare, Thomas C.
Ireland, Richard Beckett, John T. Bond, John J Brooke, and
Alexander Somervell, be, and they are hereby appointed
commissioners to supply the vacancies occasioned by the
death and removal of the before mentioned commissioners,
with the same powers and privileges, and su ject to the same
regulations in every respect, as said original commissioners.

CHAPTER 36.

An act to alter the present mode of appointing the Justices of
the Levy Court of Dorchester county , so that each election
district may have one member.
|
Passed February 2,
1828
|
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Markland, That
the levy court of Dorchester county, shall hereafter consist
of one justice of said court from each separate election dis-
trict of said county at the time of their appointment.
