manner, and on the most approved plan for the convenient
accommodation and instruction of the pupils to be admitted
therein; and said trustees and their successors are hereby
authorised and empowered to hold and occupy the same,
togethrr with any other real or personal property that may
be purchased or received by them for the use of this insti-
tution.

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That that the trustees aforesaid
shall annually nominate and appoint a board of twelve or
more visitors and examiners whose duty it shall be to attend
all public examinations of the students or cadets, and who
shall further have free Access at all times to the institution;
and said trustees and their successors shall also appoint, on
such terms and conditions as they shall think fit, one chief or
General Superintendant to preside over and govern the insti-
tution, and who shall be authorised and empowered to appoint

and remove at his pleasure all professors, teachers, assistants
and other officers and servants that may in his opinion be re-
quisite to attend on any student or students, cadet or cadets
in said academy, and to instruct them as he, under the direc-
tion of the said visitors and examiners, may direct, in all or
any oi the liberal arts and sciences, including civil engineer-
ing and such branches of education as are most particularly
connected with agriculture, commerce, the mechanic arts and
military science, and said chief or general superintendant,
with the professors appointed by him, shall be known and

distinguished as one learned body or faculty, by the name of
the Superintendant General and Professors of the 'Pikesville
Literary, Scientific and Military Academy, and be authorised
to form such system of rules and regulations as they may

increase the physical as well as mental powers of their pupils,
and to secure at the same time order and good government
in the institution.

SEC. 5 And be it enacted. That general meetings of the
stockholders may be convened at any time at the institution
or in the city or vicinity of Baltimore, when the trustees for
the time being may think fit or deem it necessary; or general
meetings may be called at any time by any nnmber of stock-
holders, holding not less than one half of the stock of the
institution, who may agree to convene them by public notice
to be given for two weeks at least in two or more of the news-
papers published in the city of Baltimore, and at every gener-
al reeling of the stockholders convened as herein authorised,
the trustees, superintendant general and professors for the
time being, shall lay before them a general account of all the
concerns of the institution, and make known to them the situ-
ation thereof in every particular required, and at any such
general meeting of the stockholders a majority of the shares
of stock in the institution being represented thereat, either in
person or by proxy, a new election of trustees, if required by
any three stockholders, may be gone into by ballot, and the
