Levy therefor.

committed to his custody, as often as it may be necessary, to
iron and uniron the same.
SEC. 2, And be it enacted, That the levy courts aforesaid,
be, and is hereby authorised to levy the same, on the assess-
able property of the county aforesaid, as other county charges
are levied and collected

An act to provide f or the Cession of Territorial Jurisdiction,
at Janes Island in Somerset County, and at Clay Island, in
Dorchester County, for the erection of light houses thereon
or at such other point or points, in the said Counties as may
he selected by the proper officers of the Government of the
United States for the erection of the said light houses.

Preamble.

WHEREAS, applications have been made to the Congress
of the United States, for the erection and establishment of
light houses at Janets island and at Clay island, or at such
other point or points, in Somerset or Dorchester counties:
And whereas, the legislature only appreciating the advantages
to emanate from the erection and establishment of the said
light houses, and particularly with intent to avoid the diffi-
culties and dangers incident to the navigation of Tangier
Sound, during the r»ight, and disposed to promote the achieve-
ment of objects so much desired by the good people of this

state; Wherefore,
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That in case an act or acts, of the Congress of the Unit-
ed States authorising the erection and establishing of a light
house or light houses, at either one, or more, of the places,
or points, designated in the preamble of this act, commis-
sioiiers shall be, und the same are hereby appointed with pow-
er to fill vacancies, if any should occur, in their body, to fix
and determine the value of the land which may be selected by

the United States for the purpose or purposes, aforesaid.
SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the following persons be, and
they hereby are appointed and constituted commissioners for
the purposes of this act, to wit: Thomas B. Robertson, Peter
Bell, Henry White, Lntleton Dennis Maddox, and Littleton
Upshur Dennis, all of Somerset county, to be commissioners
for the said county , and Henry M'Namara, Wesley Woodlen,
Washington Jones, Senior, Reuben Tall and Levin Woolford
P. C. to foe commissioners for Dorchester county, as the case
may be, and they or a majority of them shall in the event a-
foresaid, be authorised in either of their respective counties
as the case may be, upon giving at least sixty days notice, in
two of the most convenient newspapers, for four consecutive
weeks, to value and assess the same, taking into considera-
tion the advantages or disadvantages attendant upon the erect-
ing the light houses aforesaid, on the land aforesaid, and is-
