ARCHIVIST OF THE HALL OF RECORDS 35

LIBRARY

During the fiscal year we added 129 titles to our library to bring
our total to about 7,800 volumes. These include, as usual, items added
by purchase, subscription, exchange, deposit, and gift.

Our purchases were slightly higher than in previous years. In-
cluded in this category were John R. Lambert's Arthur Pue Gorman,
The Peacemakers, by Richard B. Morris, and additional volumes con-
taining the abstracts of the land records of Dorchester County which
were prepared by James McAllister.

Once again, we received numerous gifts worthy of mention. These
include genealogies of the Barekman, Stevenson, Durst, Getty, and
Stringer families. Mrs. Helen Brown has continued to supplement her
many other valuable gifts with her presentation of a copy of her Index
to Bill of Mortality -for Frederick County. The Cresap Chapter D.A.R.
gave us a copy of the transcript of the 1800 Census together with
abstracts of the early land records of Allegany County. Mr. Charles
Earp presented a volume containing the records of the First Christian
Church of Baltimore, while Mary Clark Dorsey donated a copy of her
history of the First Presbyterian Church of Howard County. We also
received copies of the tombstone and family records of Cecil County
from the Head of Elk Chapter D.A.R. Mrs. Tressie Nash Bowman
gave us a copy of her Montgomery County Marriage Records, 1796-
1850. We have begun to receive copies of reprints published by the
Genealogical Company and the Tradition Press.

As usual, we continued to receive copies of local codes. Among
these we include the three-volume Baltimore City Code and municipal
codes for Bladensburg, Cumberland, Hagerstown, and Kensington. We
have also continued to receive the journals, laws, replacement volumes,
and annual supplements to the 1957 Annotated Code of the Public
General Laws.
