22 THIRTY-FIRST ANNUAL REPORT

TEACHING AND LEARNING

The American University continued its sponsorship last year of
Genealogical and Archival training for advanced students and the Hall
of Records participated again, as it has without a break since the inaugu-
ration of these courses. The Fifteenth Institute of Genealogical Research
spent the day July 21, 1965. They were welcomed by the Archivist,
given an account of our records by the Assistant Archivist and offered
a conducted tour of the building. Those who were interested were then
taken by Mr. Beach on a tour of the Record Center in Annapolis. The
same schedule was followed with the Twentieth Annual Institute on
Modern Archives Administration, which came to Annapolis June
15, 1966.

On January 4, 1966 the senior class in history and government
at Towson State College visited the Hall of Records accompanied by
Professors George Beishlag and John McCleary, and the graduating
class in American History at Goucher College came on April 20. This
class was conducted by Professor Rhoda Dorsey.

Mr. White spoke before the State Legislative Workshop of the
League of Women Voters February 16. The subject of his talk was
"The Compilation of the Maryland Manual."

The learning process was not all one way though, for some mem-
bers of our staff took advantage of learning opportunities offered close
by. For example, Mr. Beach and Mr. Brown followed a course in data
processing offered by the Processing Division of the Comptroller's
Office. The purpose of this course was to acquaint State personnel with
the data processing equipment now in use in the Comptroller's office,
the fundamentals of data processing, and the future application of
electronic data processing in the State.

Mr. Brown continued his work for the degree of Master of Arts
in Public Administration at the American University, this year he com-
pleted a course in the management of Institutional Records Systems.

Miss Sarah Salter has begun a course leading to the LL.B. degree
at Georgetown University. If all goes well she will finish in four years.
