ARCHIVIST OF THE HALL OF RECORDS 25

CIRCULATION

Circulation of records and numbers of visitors bent on using them,
were less last year than in the previous year, but more than in fiscal year
1962. The number of queries answered by letter remained approximately
the same. This has been the pattern at the Hall of Records for years:
the trend is upward over the years but it is rare that one year exceeds
the last one. We have often speculated on the irregularity of this trend
but in vain. It is always true, though, that in severe winters, especially
those of abundance of snow, we have had a fall in circulation and in
visitors. And last year gave us a winter of recordbreaking snowfall.
