FINANCIAL STATEMENT

The considerable increase in funds available for fiscal year 1962
was due in part to the fact that, for the first time, the appropriation for
the Maryland Manual was assigned to our budget rather than to that
of the Secretary of State as in previous years. In addition, a second
Photographer I was granted us near the middle of the fiscal year by
the Board of Public Works in order to speed up our security micro-
filming of county records. Finally, there was the normal increase re-
quired for the payment of annual increments.

The fairly large sum reverted to the General Funds of the State
was due primarily to the fact that for two-thirds of the year one Public
Records Examiner position was vacant.

Receipts for the year exceeded those for any previous year by
over $2,000. This was due almost entirely to the sale of copies of the
Maryland Manual. I am sure you will recall that the Manual was never
before sold by any agency of the State.
