LIBRARY

During the past year, our library was once again the recipient of
many valuable printed works. We added 172 titles. Some are publica-
tions which we receive regularly, but the majority are entirely new but
equally welcome additions to our collection. As in previous years, we
have of necessity limited our purchases to a very few items.

During the 1960-1961 fiscal year, by far the largest gift came from
the estate of the late Professor St. George L. Sioussat, who died on
August 31, 1960. From Mrs. Sioussat we received a total of sixty titles.
Included in her gift are publications of Dr. Sioussat's mother, Annie
Leakin Sioussat, some of Dr. Sioussat's own writings, and many other
works of Maryland history.

Charles Francis Stein presented a copy of his ne\v History of Cal-
vert County. From the Historical Society of the Baltimore Conference
of the Methodist Church came minutes of the Baltimore and other
Conferences to supplement our growing collection of the records of
that Church. Mrs. Truman E. Hienton gave us a copy of her Index to
the Register of Piscataway Parish, 1689-1878, while Mrs. Helen W.
Brown gave copies of her Index to the Register of Prince George s
Parish, which they had compiled from our own records. Jacob Hold-
craft gave us six volumes of his Gravestones of Frederick County. We
were glad to receive a set of the Archives of Maryland from the Prince
George's County Court, which will ease the strain of heavy usage on our
primary set. We have continued to add to our collection of Annotated
County Codes.

Among the few books purchased during the past fiscal year arc
the following: The United States Government Organization Manual.
Gazetteer of the State of Maryland, by R. S. Fisher, M.D., published
in 1852, The Power of the Purse: A History of American Public Ft-
