REPAIR AND BINDING

In past reports I have always listed the number of pages laminated
and the number of books bound in our repair room during the course
of the year. I have also brought to your attention the fact that all sorts
of varied duties devolve on the repair room staff. The itemized list
given here below will be the first time that I have enumerated these
miscellaneous accomplishments. They are all necessary—for example we
could never mount an exhibit without the skill, the supplies, the equip-
ment and the good will of the manuscript repair technicians. In spite of
these unorthodox services, the quality and quantity of lamination and
binding has remained at their customary high level.

Pages laminated ............................. 24,664

Books sewn for binding....................... 69

Books bound................................ 70

Books tooled................................. 5

Printed library books repaired................... 31

Plats flattened................................ 41

Post binders made............................ 2

Pamphlet covers made.......................... 3

Covers for shelf lists made..................... 12

Pictures mounted for exhibit cases................ 45

Signs lettered for exhibits...................... 3

Volumes bound in soft leather................... 2

PHOTOCOPYING

The work in photography at the Hall of Records continues to be
of high archival quality. Its quantity only varies in years, like the last
one, when our single photographer had an extended period of illness.
This is fortunately a rare phenomenon.
