ARCHIVAL AND MANUSCRIPT ACCESSIONS

It will be noted in the list of accessions below that most of the
records acquired last year are of the nineteenth century with only a few
series originating in the late eighteenth century. This is due to the fact
that by now almost all of the earlier records are already at the Hall
of Records.

Only one series, the Inventories received from the Register of
Wills of Frederick County, dates back to the colonial period. Our
agreement with this officer established 1850 as the cut-off date for the
several series transferred; the only exceptions being two discontinued
records, Apprentice Indentures and Certificates to Free Negroes. The
Register reported the Wills were used frequently and, since we already
have microfilm copies available, we agreed to postpone the transfer of
this series.

For the same reasons, the Wills and Accounts were left in the
office of the Allegany County Register of Wills when we transferred
