COUNTY LAND RECORDS PROJECT

We are glad to report steady if unspectacular progress in micro-
filming the county land records of Maryland. Ten of the twenty-three
counties are now completed, but the project is even farther advanced
than these figures might indicate because among these ten are three of
the most populous counties, Baltimore, Anne Arundel and Prince
George's. The other two large collections are being done: Montgomery
County in one year of filming has covered the years from 1850 to 1908,
and Baltimore City has made a satisfactory beginning. The Cecil County
project has, unfortunately, made no progress during the last two years.
The years which have been completed, 1918-1949, were done by a
commercial indexing company interested only in that period. The lack
of a camera in the courthouse has, at least for the present, discour-
aged any additional work.

For the new year we hope to advance the work in Montgomery
County and in Baltimore City, but we cannot expect to finish these
