AIDS TO RESEARCH

Every honest archivist must be deterred in his collecting activities by the
prohibitive cost of making records available. Simply to store them in the vault
area serves only to remove them from the use of all but the most expert. It is,
of course, not always possible to provide finding aids at once for all types of
records, but microfilm has offered a solution in the case of county records
where an index has been maintained in the office of origin. All the indexes
listed below are on microfilm except that for the Queen Anne's County Land
Records. In that case we were given an older original index which was discard-
ed some years ago by the Clerk of the Court in favor of a new and more con-
venient work.
