only praise for our older activities — repair and rehabilitation, microfilming
of county records, and above all, our reference service which is called on
in increasing degree every year.

Care of records in our custody is half of our archival function, the
other half is the accumulation of historical records in our vaults. A glance
at our accessions lists will demonstrate that in this respect we have had an
excellent year. With the aid of microfilming we now have collected in our
vaults the two most important probate series, from the beginning of the
Colony to the present day. Our collection of early church records increased
more this year than in any other, and we received several very fine groups
of family papers.

I am sure you will be gratified that our publication program went for-
ward again and that in every other area of our work the year proved to be
a good one. Perhaps this is the place to say that all of this was possible only
because of the loyalty and skill of our staff. This year was especially favor-
able for good progress because we lost only one member of the Archival
Staff, a Junior Archivist who had been in our employ only for a year.

Respectfully submitted,
MORRIS L. RADOFF

Archivist and Records Administrator
