available or too costly in any other form. In the case of the Annapolis
Evening Capital we have the originals on deposit but the paper has deter-
iorated so badly that they cannot be used. Microfilming a long run of news-
papers (the Capital goes back to 1884) is a major undertaking and one on
which we have been engaged for several years. We hope to bring it to an end
in fiscal year 1954. Among the items listed as microfilmed last year you will
note several volumes of records of which we have the originals. In cases of
this kind the filming was done because the original was sent out of the build-
ing for binding. Now that we have our own bindery, insurance copies of
this kind will no longer be necessary.

I should like to call your attention especially to the Probate Records of
Talbot County in the following list. Other microfilmed probate records from
this and other counties were added to our collection with the help of the
Microfilm Division, and are listed under "Microfilming of County Records."
