46 SEVENTEENTH ANNUAL REPORT
PUBLIC DOCUMENTS PROJECT
Fiscal year 1952 was the third since we began to collect the publica-
tions of Maryland State agencies. By the end of last year we had complete
sets of annual or biennial reports for forty-seven agencies, many of them
still in existence, others long since defunct. We are glad to report that
complete series for an additional thirteen agencies are now available. Alto-
gether, we received 601 reports in printed form and 362 on microfilm. "We
were especially enriched by the Maryland State Library where many dupli-
cates were found in the course of a cataloguing project which was completed
during the year. We were also permitted by the same institution to micro-
film other reports of which we had no copies and it had only single copies.
We have now exhausted this possibility in Annapolis, and during the next
fiscal year we shall shift our microfilming operations to Baltimore. When
we began this project we were well aware that it would be tedious and ex-
pensive. Nor have we been disappointed. We are confident, however, that
the results will justify the necessary expenditure of time and money.
