A very useful addition to our finding aids was a card catalogue of
county microfilm records. It is now possible by searching under the name
of the county and the series desired to find the reel on which the record
appears.

Along with our work of cataloguing the official publications of the
State of Maryland, we prepared a list of the materials included in the
series of so-called "Documents" which appeared from 1830 until 1920.
This list has not only proved useful as a finding aid but by indicating clearly
what we lack has provided us with a list of desiderata to be procured at
the first opportunity.

Two very valuable indexes were transferred from the Rockville Court-
house to the Hall of Records: General Index to Land Records 17774878,
4 volumes, and General Index to Wills, 1777-1942, 1 volume. The transfer
of these indexes makes the use of our Montgomery County records much
easier and saves us the cost of preparing new finding aids for these two
series.

Your attention is called to the list of card indexes here below, witnesses
of the fact that while our work has expanded into all sorts of other record
fields, we still do not neglect the genealogist and local historian for whom
these very old records are of primary importance.

Among the other finding aids it has been customary here to report
the appearance of annual reports of the Archivist, in this case the Four-
teenth, because these reports contain accessions and lists of finding aids
which have been prepared during the year.
