salary scale, to the Employment Commissioner and members of
the Salary Standard Board, who passed it, and finally, to the
Governor, who gave his approval.

In the course of the year, microfilm copies of the records
at the Hall of Records, which had been prepared with the assist-
ance of the Library of Congress, were presented to the Hunting-
ton Library in San Marino, California, and to the British
Museum through the British Embassy. (The gift was made to the
British Museum instead of to the Public Record Office, as had
been planned, on the advice of the Foreign Office.) Another
microfilm project was begun during the year in collaboration
with the Genealogical Society of the Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-Day Saints. When this project is finished it will include
all the Land and Probate Records at the Hall of Records and in
the Land Office as well as the Land and Probate Records of all
the counties of Maryland through the year 1850. Work at the
Land Office and at the Hall of Records has been completed; it
is expected that the county work will begin shortly. In return
for our permission to film the records and for the use of some
of our equipment, the Hall of Records will be given a positive
copy of the film for our use. It would, of course, be an excellent
idea to film all the Land and Will records up to the present be-
cause they exist now in the county seats in unique copies. How-
ever, the Genealogical Society is not interested in the period
after 1850, and the Hall of Records does not at the present time
have the resources to undertake, by itself, such a large task.

I should like to call your attention to the progress which has
been made in the county record program. In addition to the
photostating which you will find listed in this report and the
accessions already made, it is gratifying to report that negoti-
ations for all the other county records within the period in which
we are presently interested have been completed.
