amount be reverted to the General Funds of the State Treasury clearing
our books of any balances from the fiscal years 1942 and 1943 to be car-
ried over into the fiscal year 1945.

General Appropriations for the fiscal year 1944 were $31,268.00.
The sum of $1,625.00 was appropriated to our Budget Item No. 208-B
for the photostating of certain county records. This amount was trans-
ferred from the General Emergency Funds by budget amendment
bringing the total of our appropriation to $32,893.00. In addition,
$4.16 was added to Budget Item No. 305 representing a refund received
from the Puritan Compressed Gas Corporation on a Cylinder taken
out and paid for July 29, 1941 and returned November 13, 1943. Of
the total amount, $32,897.16, $27,66978 was expended: $1,554.75
reverted to the Treasury; and $3,672.63 was carried forward.

Receipts for services performed by the Hall of Records are de-
posited to the credit of the General Funds of the State Treasury.

PUBLIC AND PROFESSIONAL RELATIONS

Due in part to the difficulties of wartime travel and also in part
to the illness of the Archivist which prevented him from traveling
for several months there were no talks made by members of the staff
on archival or historical subjects. This is a valuable part of our work
for the Hall of Records and in general for the cause of record preserva-
tion in Maryland and it will be resumed as soon as it becomes feasible
again.

Mr. Thomas attended the Annual Meeting of the Society of Ameri-
can Archivists which was held at Princeton University in November
1943, The Society appointed Mr. Thomas to serve as a member of the
Auditing Committee and of the Publicity Committee. The Archivist
