proportion to the number of items which we receive in the course of
the year.

One other caution should be registered in this troublesome business
of the division of printed items and archival materials. If a printed
item is destined for use with the archives only because it fills a gap in
the manuscript records, as in the case of some of the volumes of laws,
or if it is complementary to the records as in the case of the printed
proceedings of the Assembly, or if it is of great rarity and closely
related to the archives as in the case of a copy of Elie Vallette's Deputy
Commissary's Guide received this year, it is listed with the archival
accessions rather than with the library.
