The following small volumes were bound at the Hall of Records:
Prince George's County Index to Liber E, 1710-1719,
Vessels Entering and Clearing the Port of Baltimore, 1782.
In addition, several other small jobs were done. Three parchment
commissions issued by the Lords Proprietor in 1753, 1754 and 1765
were cleaned and flattened, four leaves which had been bound out of
order in Testamentary Prooceedings 11 were removed and replaced
where they belonged and four loose pages of Baltimore County Land
Record Liber B, No. G, 1757-1759 were fastened.
PHOTOCOPYING
Orders for photostatic copies increased by a good deal during the
year. This increase was due to several factors: the cheapness and
accuracy of photostatic copies have caused them to supersede all other
types of copies, legal restrictions against their used in various states
have been gradually overcome, the increased number of records at the
Hall of Records has stimulated a natural increase in the number of
copies ordered, travel difficulties which prevented people from coming
in person to consult the records increased rather than otherwise during
the year. Cash receipts for the past year for photostatic copies were
$431.00 compared with $178.50 for the previous year (only nine
months) and $173.00 for the fiscal year 1941-1942.
During the previous year our long-term program of photostating
county records advanced rapidly. We were not able during the past
year to maintain this rate primarily because we had only one operator
whereas during the previous year we had had two for most of the
year and a third for several months. However, the record of the depart-
ment for county work was quite good when the number of other photo-
static copies which had to be ,nmde during the course of the year is
considered. The following work was completed:
Frederick County Land Records.................................................................8,456 pages
Somerset County Land Records.................................................................1,082 pages
The new year should increase this total considerably as we have
now assigned a second operator to assist in this work.
