DESTRUCTION OF RECORDS

During the past year, several State agencies took advantage of
the procedure for destroying useless records established by Chapter 825
of the Laws of 1941.

The Maryland Veterans' Commission, which administers and dis-
burses the Veterans' Relief Fund, was granted permission on December
21, 1942, to destroy the.following records:

Applications for Relief, 1925-1939, 150 cubic feet.

Cancelled Checks, Check Stubs, Medical Reports, etc., 1935-1939,
10 cubic feet.

On the same day the Unemployment Compensation Board of Mary-
land, which operates in conjunction with the Federal Social Security
Board, was granted permission to destroy the following records:

Employment Reports, 1936-1938, about 26,000 reports, 100 cubic
feet.

Wage Record Cards, 1936-1938, about 2 million cards, 165 cubic
feet.

The Commissioners of the State Accident Fund have expressed a
desire to dispose of all the records which they have had ten years or
longer. They consist largely of Accident Reports and Claims for Com-
pensation plus a number of cancelled Employers' Insurance Policies.
On June 24,1943, the Archivist rejected these records for deposit in the
Hall of Records. Should the Board of Public Works grant the Com-
missioners permission to destroy them, a list of the material destroyed
will be filed at the Hall of Records.

LIBRARY

invited to the fact that the number of items added each year is not larger
for the following reasons: no gifts are accepted unless they contain
