ARCHIVIST OF THE HALL OF RECORDS 25

RECORDS DESTROYED

Two sets of records were destroyed during the past year under
the operation of chapter 825 of the Laws of 1941. When the Comptrol-
ler's records listed above were transferred to the Hall of Records on
November 25, 1941, the following records, which neither the Comptrol-
ler nor the Archivist considered worthy of preservation, were left in the
basement of the Court of Appeals building to be destroyed:

Certificates of Committee on Claims, 1929-1936, 9 volumes.

Valuation of State Property, 1923-1931, 2 volumes.

Adams Express Company Receipts, 1911-1917, 1 volume.

Pay Rolls, Vouchers, Requisitions, 1912-1922, 27 cublic feet of

papers.
Pay Rolls and Expense Accounts from Various State Departments,

1923-1935, 700 cubic feet of papers.
Records of the Emergency Gross Receipts Tax Division, 1935-

1936, 400 cubic feet of papers.

On May 12, 1942, the State Tax Commission removed the follow-
ing records for destruction:

Corporation Reports, including Ordinary Business Corporations,

Banks, Savings Banks, Railroads, Distilled Spirits, Non Stock,

Public Service, etc., 1915-1931, 234 cubic feet of papers,

LIBRARY

The Hall of Records continued its policy this year of adding very
cautiously to its collection of printed materials. We have not accepted
gifts of books which are not related to Maryland history. Purchases
are further restricted by our policy not to acquire materials already
on the shelves of the State Library or the Land Office. Nor do we
purchase materials which either one of these institutions expects to buy.
Our accessions of printed materials during the past fiscal year while
not large may still be considered satisfactory.
