remarkably fine personal atmearance, standing
six feet, four inches in height, and of the
most genial and winning manners.54

Dobbin was in Baltimore in January, 1795, as Clayland's
partner, as proved by the proposal to print the Balti-
more felegraphe.

In the meantime, the Baltimore office of Samuel
and John Adams had issued at least four publications
during 1794 and 1795, very likely under Clayland's
direction, Bannaker's New-Jersey, Pennsylvania, Dela-
ware, Maryland, and Virginia Almanac ... for ... 179555
Regulations for the Order and Discipline of the Vol-
unteer Army of the United States of America printed
for George Keatinge's book store;56 William Duke's
Observations on the Present State of Religion in Mary-
land;57 and Reverend James Muir's An Examination of
the Principles Gontainod in the Age of Reason. 58
Clayland probably severed his connection with the
Mama firm early in 1795, for no Baltimore imprints
from the Adams press are known after that date. The
novel, Mrs. Susanna Rowson's The Filie do Chambre59
was issued by Clayland in 1795, probably before his
partnership with Dobbin.
