Yundt, Patton and Brown, Continuation of Daily

Journalism in Baltimore. - The new publication, which

intimated a break from the Repository by starting its

volume numbering at volume I, number 1, was printed
on a folio sheet, folded once to make four pages,
with three wide columns to each page, and was issued

to its subscribers at four dollars per year.

That it was cordially received ty Baltimore's
growing population is indicated by the editors' thanks
to the public, at the end of the Intelligencer's first
year:

The subscribers [Yundt and Patton] would deem
themselves destitute of gratitude, in not return-
ing their unfeigned thanks to a generous public,
to their numerous subscribers and advertising
friends, particularly for their unparalleled
patronage. The encouragement which they have
received from an enlightened community has far
exceeded their most sanguine expectations, and
calls forth their warmest acknowledgments.26

This partnership was broken "by mutual consent" 27
at the end of the first year, and the firm of Yundt
and Brown, destined to endure much longer, succeeded
it. A change in personnel seemed to indicate a change
of title; and on October 30, 1794, the Federal Intelli-
gencer, and Baltimore Daily Gazette made its first
appearance.
